The roof over your head…
Tents come in all shapes and sizes these days and there is a vast choice depending on your budget and theme. Obviously I am biased towards our gorgeous tipis as they are a natural colour so suit the countryside beautifully and are so easily decorated as they are stunning to begin with so don’t actually need lots of fuss.
But once you have picked your chosen structure, you will need to furnish and put your mark on the inside. Most tent companies have their own stock of furniture (check out our chill out brochure for some of our ideas). For instance in a tipi you can use either rustic wooden tables and benches for a more relaxed theme or round tables and chairs for a more traditional layout for the wedding breakfast. And if there are particular ideas you have that your tipi or tent provider doesn’t stock, some companies, including us will help you to source specific items you might want to include.
You really can let your imagination go wild when you are decorating your tipi or tent and you can either be a DIY decorator yourself (lots of couples enjoy working with family and friends to do this) or treat yourself and hire a venue decorator to do all the work for you.
When you look at your layout try and walk yourself through the day and if you are having more guests in the evening, do you need to ask you caterers to move some of the tables for you after the food. If the caterer is unable to assist, this is a good role to give to the ushers and best man; they don’t get bought a lovely new suit just to look good!

So I hope you can see that actually having an outdoor wedding is really flexible, creative and fun to do. You make so many of the rules yourself – the size, the configuration, the menu choices, the bar, and all of these mean your event is completely unique. Even if some of your friends have or are going to have their wedding reception in a tipi you can make yours completely different by the way you decorate it, by the things you put inside it and of course by the location you decide to hold the reception.
