Winter Wedding Ideas

We have previously written an essential guide for outdoor winter weddings which will help you get together everything you need for your winter wedding; but once that’s sorted it’s time to look at the extra bits that you want! With that in mind we have put together a list of Winter Wedding Ideas that even the UK winter can’t dampen!

Invitations

There are plenty of fantastic ideas for wedding invitations floating around online. If you are hand delivering them why not try some of these unique ideas?

Winter Wedding Ideas: Christmas tree guestbook

Plain Christmas baubles, with the wedding invitation inside. Another great idea is to send a strip of paper with the invitation asking your guests to write a short note to you and your fiancé. Then, instead of a guest book, you can have a Christmas tree so that your guests can place their note inside a bauble and hang them ready for you to read after your wedding.

Another lovely idea as it is the season for giving would be to contact your chosen charity and ask you can buy some of their christmas cards or even create your own wedding invitation with their logo. Most charities will have them as this is an extra way for raise money for their cause. You can them print out the inserts with all the relevant wedding day info and stick them inside or use a colourful ribbon to hold them in place.

Catering

In the summer it is lovely to have a roaring BBQ or outdoor hog roast, but this might not work for a winter wedding. Don’t despair! You would be surprised what you can still cook up inside your tipis instead of your traditional sit down 3 course wedding breakfast.

Make sure you have some lovely warming canapés for your guests to nibble on before the main event. Here are a few suggestions that are even making my mouth water.

Mushroom Pate on Toasted brioche with chutney

Breaded triangle of Brie with cranberry

King prawns with a sweet chilli dip

It might surprise you to hear but you can have an indoor tipi hog roast with all of the trimmings. You will need to make sure your caterer has the correct indoor equipment but apart from that you are good to go.

Another great idea is to rent a pizza oven and have them custom make pizzas for your guests using their favourite toppings. Then have some delicious salads, coleslaws and hot marinated potatoes and handmade breads for your guests to help themselves to. Absolutely delicious!

You want to make sure your guests feel toasty inside the tipis so another great idea for your pudding would be a delicious hot chocolate station with all the trimmings or even a marshmallow lolly station where your guests can cook their goodies over a flame and add their favourite topping. A taste sensation and some fun for the big kids that you know you are!

Drinks

What can I say the choices are endless….. I would make sure you have something warming, either a traditional mulled wine or maybe for something different: a mulled cider or Winter Pimms. These can be available and topped up by your bar or caterer throughout the celebration.

A cocktail on arrival is a must and this Bloody Mary by Jamie Oliver looks festive and will taste sensational.

For something a little more traditional with a twist, why not try another of Jamie’s recipes for a Pimped-up Prosecco.

And Jacquie would not forgive me if I missed out Naughty Nigella’s Poinsettia made with champagne, cranberry juice and Grand Marnier!
