Tentipi summit 2019 – Why we love authentic Nordic Tipis
On the 20th March 2019 we were privileged to be invited to be a part of Tentipi’s 2019 summit, celebrating 30 years of Tentipi.
It was clear right from the start that Tentipi are not just a tipi manufacturer. They are a business born out of a genuine passion for life and family.
Bengt Grahn, the founder of Tentipi came from simple beginnings! Growing up in the forest, Bengt loved the outdoors, but was frequently frustrated when the mosquitoes stopped him and his friends from playing happily outside. It was then he decided to find a solution.
Using the dwellings of the Sami people as his inspiration, Bengt designed the Nordic Tipi to be used as a social space to enjoy time with his friends and family. It was quickly clear that sometimes there were more friends than others and a few years later Bengt crafted a method of raising the sides of the tipi so that it created more space; and that was when the Giant Hat was born.
We were there to help celebrate this amazing invention and would like to share with you the fascinating story behind these fabulous structures. Firstly we were introduced to the fun side of Sweden. Life slowed down and priorities were very different from our day to day lives.
We feel so passionate about the back story of our beautiful tents that we want to explain to you how, when you hire an authentic Nordic tipi made by Tentipi you are not just hiring a tent, you are part of a magical and longstanding culture developed over centuries by the Sami people, which you can see here.
We will be blogging about the different aspects of Tentipi and their origins……watch this space!
